About the LDS Nursery

The nursery is a class designated for 18 month olds to 3 year olds. The class typically meets for two hours on Sundays only. There is usually a nursery leader, a nursery assistant, and nursery helpers called to serve in the nursery depending on the number of children in the class. They have various learning activities, toy closets, snack time, clean up time, reading, lessons.

Each class in different in structure and schedule, but is governed by the same principles and purpose which according to the manual is "to help children learn the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and live it. The nursery class should help the children increase their understanding of and love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, have positive experiences in a Church setting, and grow in feelings of self-worth."

The LDS church provides a manual for individuals called to serve in the nursery called, "Behold Your Little Ones." It is free online and is the number one resource you should use when planning your lessons.

Ultimately, (in my humble opinion) it is a place where adults can learn to serve and develop patience and understanding while trying to teach the small children the principles of the Gospel.

Whatever faith you are in, if you teach small children in your own congregation, if you are teaching preschool, if you are a parent, many of the activities and principles in this blog will hopefully help you focus your teaching and parenting. i'll be using a lot of "mormon" lingo, so please refer to the "mormon lingo" tab to help you understand different definitions.

keep it simple & teach the doctrine. and pray, pray a lot.

Sending you all the best vibes in the world,

josie
